International scientific conference titled "Actual questions of ground-based observational astronomy", dedicated to the 195th anniversary of Mykolaiv Astronomical Observatory (MAO), was held at RI "MAO" on September 26-29, 2016. The conference was attended by over 50 experts from 13 institutions and astronomical observatories of Ukraine, Latvia, Slovakia and China. Among the participants were also 15 young scientists.

The guests got acquainted with historical and modern telescopes of MAO, and observatory specialists gave brief presentations about their scientific work.

Opening ceremony was held on September 27 at 10 am in the main building of MAO. Representatives of regional and city authorities, educational, scientific and cultural community of Mykolaiv as well as observatory veterans were invited. Mayor of Mykolaiv, Alexander Senkevich and representative of Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, Alla Velihovska took part in the conference opening.

Alexander Senkevich and Alla Velihovska, representatives of different observatories and Mykolaiv community also greeted the observatory staff.
The best employees of the observatory were awarded diplomas by the mayor, the regional council and administration, the Ukrainian Astronomical Association.
In accordance with the order of director, all employees of MAO obtained a commendation; and the veterans obtained gifts. The traditional photo of conference guests and participants was made.
The conference participants discussed such topics as development of methods, hardware, software for data processing of positional and photometric ground-based observations of near-Earth objects, stars, planets, asteroids. Results of data processing of ground-based observations by using virtual technologies were also presented.
The conference also discussed program of international cooperation in research and development, coordination of efforts to expand the Ukrainian Virtual Observatory, coordinated observations of celestial objects. Within three days under five sections more than 30 oral and 10 poster presentations were presented and discussed.
Great interest was aroused by reports of Kharkiv astronomers led by Fedorov P. on creation of a new catalogue of positions and proper motions of over a billion objects. These reports were awarded with valuable gifts by the international consulting company SESTEMA FZ, which was one of the conference sponsors.

A number of meetings on the key issues of future cooperation were held with representatives from Slovakia, China, Latvia and Ukrainian observatories. The scientific organizing committee, consisting of 11 domestic and foreign experts, and the local organizing committee provided conference work. Abstract book was released. 

The conference was held with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Astronomical Association.
